Incidence of Retinopathy in Newly Diagnosed Patients with Type-II Diabetes Mellitus

Aim: To determine the incidence of retinopathy in patients newly diagnosed with type-II diabetes mellitus. Place and Duration: Alshifa Trust Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi Ophthalmology Department, CMH, Lahore for six-months duration from January 2022 to June 2022. Methods: The study included 200 individuals type 2 mellitus within previous two months selected non-probability consecutive sampling technique. Diabetes was on basis values random blood glucose (RBS), fasting (FBS) glycosylated hemoglobin (HBA1c)> mg / dL according following criteria defined by World Organization (WHO) which revised 1999 2006. All underwent detailed examination retina diabetic evaluation using biomicroscopic slit lamp +90 Diopter lens. SPSS-21.0 used data analysis. For each variable, descriptive statistics were calculated. Results: total enrolled this study. participants ranged age 31 60 years, majority 4th decade (mean age: 51.50 ± 9.02). 30 (15%) had retinopathy. From mellitus; background seen 18 (60%) patients, pre proliferative observed 8 (26.7%) 3 (13.3%). Patients a HbA1C (%) 9.8± 1.2, while those without HbA1c 7.1 2.2. Conclusions: We found that is 15%, underlines value comprehensive ophthalmological assessment all at diagnosis. Keywords: Retinopathy, Type-II incidence.
